WHILL Selected for Tokyo’s SusHi Tech Global Growth Acceleration Program to Scale Autonomous Mobility Worldwide
Company will standardize the operating model proven at Singapore Changi Airport to speed deployment at airports and other large facilities
27 Oct 2026

Tokyo, October 27, 2026 – WHILL, Inc., a global leader in autonomous airport mobility, today announced it has been selected for the second cohort of the SusHi Tech Global Growth Acceleration Program, a Tokyo Metropolitan Government initiative that supports the global expansion of promising startups. Through the program, WHILL will build on its experience at Singapore Changi Airport, where WHILL Autonomous Service entered full operation in September 2026, to standardize its service model and accelerate deployment at airports and other large facilities around the world.
WHILL was selected on the strength of its global expansion strategy for WHILL Autonomous Service. Drawing on its operations at Changi, one of the world’s leading hub airports, the company will focus on four areas:
- Establishing a global standard model for WHILL Autonomous Service
- Accelerating deployment at airports, hospitals, shopping centers and other facilities worldwide
- Enhancing service capabilities across both software and hardware
- Strengthening its intellectual property portfolio globally
The world’s population is aging rapidly. The number of people aged 60 and older is projected to reach 2.1 billion by 2050, according to the World Health Organization. Combined with the rebound and growth in air travel, this is driving steadily rising demand for assistance among passengers who have difficulty walking or are uneasy covering long distances on foot. At the same time, airlines and airports face limited staffing, leading to longer waits for passengers and greater physical strain on the employees who provide wheelchair assistance.
WHILL Autonomous Service has emerged as one answer to these challenges and is being adopted at major hub airports across Japan, North America and Europe. Backed by a record of reliable operations, the service now runs at about 30 locations worldwide, primarily airports, and has surpassed 1 million total rides. Roughly 80% of WHILL’s revenue comes from outside Japan, driven by its mobility services business, which lets people use personal mobility devices on demand or for short periods while away from home. WHILL has identified autonomous service as a key new growth area and is stepping up its efforts there.
As part of the SusHi Tech Global project, WHILL will exhibit at SWITCH (Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology), Oct. 27–29, 2026, in Singapore. One of Asia’s leading innovation events, SWITCH draws more than 25,000 participants from over 100 countries and regions. WHILL will showcase and demonstrate WHILL Autonomous Service at the event.
Guided by its mission to deliver fun and innovative mobility for all, WHILL will continue developing mobility solutions that integrate hardware and software, working toward a society where everyone can move freely and comfortably.
