Notice: New Firmware Update Brings Enhanced Security and Long-Range Battery Compatibility

July 31, 2026 — At WHILL, we are continuously working to improve the safety, security, and performance of our mobility devices for customers around the world. We are pleased to share details of a new firmware update that brings two important benefits to WHILL owners: stronger Bluetooth security and expanded compatibility with our next-generation Long-Range battery.


Benefit 1: Enhanced Bluetooth Security


The update (version 3.02 for Model C2 and version 3.01 for Model F), together with a corresponding WHILL app update, strengthens the encryption of the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) advertising connection used by these devices. Once installed, it further secures the wireless link between your device and the WHILL app, protecting features such as app connectivity, remote control via Bluetooth, and WHILL Smart Key.


We recommend that all Model C2 and Model F owners update to the latest firmware as soon as possible. The update is installed directly through the WHILL app and typically takes around 10 minutes to complete.


To update your device:

  • Make sure the official WHILL app is installed on your smartphone or tablet and Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Connect the app to your device, then open Settings > Detailed Information > Confirm Firmware Update.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions, keeping your phone near the device until the update finishes.
  • Confirm the firmware version reads 3.02 (Model C2) or 3.01 (Model F) once the update is complete.

Benefit 2: Compatibility with the Long-Range Battery


Since spring 2026, WHILL has offered our next generation Long-Range battery. Today, the Long-Range battery is compatible with WHILL Model C Lite.


Starting in August 2026, a firmware update will extend Long-Range battery compatibility to Model C2 and Model R. For Model C2, this is the same update described above, so updating brings both benefits at once. Once the firmware update has been installed, the Long-Range battery becomes available for these models.


Availability and timing of the Long-Range battery by country may vary. Customers should contact WHILL or their local WHILL distributor for details specific to their region.
