WHILL Launches Autonomous Services at Munich Airport
Expanding WHILL’s Autonomous Service Across Europe’s Major Hubs
21 Aug 2025

Munich, Germany, August 21, 2025 – WHILL, Inc., a leading provider of personal transportation solutions, today announced the launch of the WHILL Autonomous Service at Munich Airport. The service began operation in early August 2025, marking an important step in improving mobility support for departing passengers with reduced mobility while increasing the efficiency of PRM (Passengers with Reduced Mobility) operations.
The service is currently available in the satellite building of Terminal 2 on Level 4, with plans to expand to the main building of Terminal 2 in the near future. Operations are being carried out by Terminal 2 company, a joint venture between Flughafen München GmbH (FMG) and Deutsche Lufthansa AG, together with Aicher Airport Services, a division of AICHER GROUP GmbH & Co.
Passengers who require assistance walking long distances can pre-register with Lufthansa for Munich Airport’s free Mobility Service in Terminal 2. Upon arrival, Aicher Airport Services staff guide passengers to the designated area where WHILL autonomous wheelchairs are provided, assist with boarding, and help stow carry-on items. Using the intuitive touch screen on the wheelchair, passengers simply select their departure gate as the destination. The wheelchair then navigates independently to the gate—initially with staff accompaniment. Once the passenger arrives, the device automatically returns to its starting point.
The launch of the service reflects the airport’s and airline’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for mobility assistance. The introduction of WHILL’s autonomous service is designed to ease the workload of Mobility Service staff, enhance passenger independence, and streamline airport processes.
With this launch, Munich Airport joins a growing list of European airports adopting WHILL’s autonomous technology to create smoother, more independent, and more efficient travel experiences.
